Looming federal regulations update the ADA to make web content and mobile apps more accessible to people, including college students, with disabilities. But universities are scrambling to comply by the April deadline. Thousands of visually impaired college students rely on screen readers to complete their coursework and participate in other campus activities. But they regularly encounter content on apps and web pages that screen readers don’t translate well.

A Bowdoin student reported the three-word message as a threat to his life.

Almost 2,200 universities nationwide are scrambling to comply by March 18 with a new federal reporting requirement, called the Admissions and Consumer Transparency Supplement, or ACTS.
