One committee member abstained from the final vote, saying it was made clear that blocking consensus could put protections for students in undergraduate certificates at risk. After a week of talks and a final compromise from the Education Department, an advisory committee on Friday signed off on regulations that would require all postsecondary programs to pass a single earnings test.

Civil discourse was once the point of higher education. We need to make it mainstream again.
