The genre is often maligned for being formulaic and melodramatic, but it’s more important than you think.

The school is apologizing after viral footage showed a graduating Sarah announced as “Sigh-eer” while a Molly Elizabeth was pronounced “Mah-lee-nuh Zo-beth.”
