An executive order signed this week would push colleges and universities to combat antisemitism specifically by monitoring and reporting international students.
The executive order was among several the president signed meant to steer American schools and universities to adopt Republican priorities, such as restricting how schools discuss racism and gender issues.
Historian and writer Ibram X. Kendi, who wrote the bestseller “How to Be an Antiracist” and led a center on the subject at Boston University, will join Howard University’s faculty.
The Florida Board of Governors voted to remove hundreds of classes, many touching on race and gender, from general education offerings at all 12 state universities. Students at Florida State University can cheer on the Seminoles across multiple sports, but they can no longer learn about the namesake tribe of Indigenous Americans as part of FSU’s general education offerings after the Florida Board of Governors approved sweeping curriculum changes Thursday.
More than 800 colleges are eligible for $1 billion in annual federal funding based on their student body’s racial composition. Activists want Congress to redirect the funds or courts to intervene.
