Harvard University denied Tuesday that it applied for or received funding through the Paycheck Protection Program for small businesses grappling with the coronavirus crisis, after President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House he planned to force the school to pay back federal assistance.

Colleges across the U.S. are trying to decide whether they can reopen campus for the fall, and how long they can put off a final decision.

The new guidance prevents undocumented students from accessing the money, although the law includes no explicit restrictions on which students could receive the grants.
